After talking with assistant coach Simon Harris he gave us an inside view of Saichas draft process. Coached talked about that Saicha got a late start getting into basketball, she didn't play her whole life but her athleticism helped her. After arriving at UD, Saicha really bought in to learning the skills it would take to become a great player but took some time. I asked coach Harris when he knew she could take her talents to the next level and he said halfway through her sophomore season. He said halfway through there was just a change in Saicha, she started not only maturing as a person but as a basketball player as well. Her work ethic improved and she started knowing and believing in herself and her abilities that she could become great. As to her draft process leading up to the draft it was just constant conditioning and working out to keep in shape and continue working on her game. Coach said she did majority stuff on her own but whenever she needed something they were always there for her. I asked him if Saicha he was surprised in where she fell in the draft and if he thought they she would get drafter earlier, later or where she did. He said that she went right where they thought they were in constant contact with LA sparks head coach and he said if she fell to there pick he would take her and he stuck to his word and took her in the 3rd round as the 31st pick. The great opportunity for Saicha is that LA is coming off a championship season and is in the mix to compete for another one her first year being a member of the Sparks.
